The Department of Aviation offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including flight training and research supervision from the main UNSW campus in Sydney and Bankstown Airport. The Department seeks new academic staff members to strengthen teaching at all levels, to conduct research at international standards and supervise research students.

The two positions available are for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer Aviation Management and Lecturer/Senior Lecturer Aviation Safety.

Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (Aviation Management) - REF. 4552NET

The Department seeks a new academic staff member to strengthen teaching at all levels, to conduct research at international standards and supervise research students.

The salary range for Lecturer is A$66,654 - A$78,577 per year and salary range for Senior Lecturer is A$80,958 - A$92,880 per year (plus up to 17% employer superannuation plus leave loading), depending on qualifications and experience.

This is a full time continuing position.

Position Description

Job Purpose

To prepare for and undertake teaching and research duties.

Duties

  • To write course notes for and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses
  • To write course notes for and deliver postgraduate courses
  • To supervise student research projects at all levels from undergraduate to PhD
  • To undertake administrative responsibilities associated with course delivery
  • To undertake research of international standard
  • To undertake other duties as required by Head of Department.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Completion of undergraduate and postgraduate course delivery and assessment on time, and with student satisfaction.
  • Completion of short course delivery and assessment on time, and with student satisfaction.
  • Supervision of research projects by provision of consulting times and advice to students
  • Research completed, and published in international refereed journals
  • Administrative paperwork complete, correct and appropriately filed.

Minimum Qualifications

PhD in appropriate Field.

  • A demonstrated successful research record in any area of aviation management
  • Publications in international refereed journals, teaching experience at university level
  • A demonstrated record in attracting external funds
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to implement equity and diversity policies and programs
  • Knowledge of OHS responsibilities and commitment to attend OHS training.

Desirable criteria

  • A knowledge of the aviation industry within Australia and Internationally
  • Knowledge of office computer skills
  • Experience in military or civilian flight operations management.
