Dr Brett Molesworth and colleagues tests the effectiveness of an operational based training method to improve pilots' risk management behaviour. Using the schools flight simulator, 30 pilots were split into three groups and asked to complete a training flight in week 1 followed by a test flight in the second week. Following the flight in week 1, one of the training groups completed a self-explanation questionnaire while the other training group completed a relapse-prevention questionnaire. The third group formed a rest control. The results of the test flight revealed the self-explanation group deviated least from the flight rules.
