Alan started flying in 1949, and joined Qantas in 1955 flying Douglas DC-3s, DC-4s and Catalinas. After a brief period on Constellations, he flew the Boeing 707 and the B747 classic, rising to Director of Flight Operations and Chief Pilot in 1985. During this time he carried out evaluations of a number of developing aircraft, including the Concorde. He subsequently held the positions of General Manager Operations at Qantas, Chief Executive officer of Asia-Australia Airlines, Operations Advisor to Hazelton’s and CEO of the Regional Association of Australia. He served on the Board of the Civil Aviation Authority, and worked as an Aviation Consultant. In his later years Alan became a Visiting Fellow at UNSW Aviation, and contributed to the education of many UNSW Bachelor of Aviation students, using his vast knowledge to deliver a course in Regional and General Aviation. He was a gentleman who was universally liked and respected by all who had the fortune to meet him.

Alan Terrell passed away 27th March, 2014. We will miss him.
